Free Agency Day 2: Garoppolo’s Instagram Hacked, Pats Land Kony Ealy

Day 2 of Free Agency is underway. I’ll be updating this blog periodically throughout the day as news starts to come forth.

Patriots Trade Second-Rounder to Carolina for DE Kony Ealy and a Third-Round Pick

Now here’s the real news of the day. I’m really excited about this move. After essentially saying goodbye to Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long in this offseason, New England makes a savvy move and takes a player who can really help their team.

The Patriots only had to move down six spots on the draft board to land a stud. While he had a down year in 2016, he notched nine sacks over his first two seasons with the Panthers. Ealy really showed out in Super Bowl 50, where he had two sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble against the Broncos.

For only moving down six picks, this is a great move by the Patriots, and I really hope Ealy finds his potential like so many players before him.

Jimmy Garoppolo Says Goodbye on Instagram, Later Says He Was Hacked

After a wild and crazy first day of free agency, football fans have been refreshing social media in hopes to catch the biggest news of the day. That news came not from the Twitter feeds of Schefter and Rapaport, but from Jimmy Garoppolo’s Instagram account.

Garoppolo posted a farewell picture, thanking Patriots fans and Boston for his time there. Garoppolo would later come out and say that his account was hacked.

I’ve been very pro-trading Garoppolo, but this is a non-story. Nevertheless, it’s what everyone in the NFL world woke up to today, so I felt it necessary to touch upon

Logan Ryan Signs 3-year/$30M deal with Titans

As expected, Logan Ryan departs from the team for a bigger contract. Ryan was under appreciated here in New England, but there was no denying he exceeded expectations as a Patriot. It was time for him to get paid, and with the Patriots working on locking down fellow cornerback Malcolm Butler as well as just tying a lot of money up in Stephon Gilbert, it was a sign that Ryan was going to be out the door.

The effort that Logan Ryan put forth was commendable, and I’m not sure Super Bowl LI gets won without him. It’s sad to say goodbye, but it had to happen.
